FOLLOW-UP GUIDELINES

Make a commitment to follow-up a minimum of five times by mail or by phone with each contact, whether or not they respond. Researchers have found that 5 to 6 exposures to information is optimum.

For example:

  1. Send out a greeting card. (Immediately)
  2. Send out an information package with an offer of a free book. (Within the first 3 days)
  3. Send a newsletter or pamphlet with information local events and website information. (In two weeks time)
  4. Send a personalized invitation to attend a local event or to meet in person in a neutral spot such as a coffee shop.
  5. Send another letter that asks if would be all right to contact them in the future with additional information. Include a self-addressed postcard they can send back to let you know.

In every follow-up packet or with each phone call be sure to provide a phone number where the contact may call a "live Bahá’í". If they in turn give you a phone number CALL THEM! Be sure that every call is answered promptly – no longer than the day after. A prompt response indicates sincerity, reliability and integrity. The mail/e-mail communication process is to inspire confidence and a sense of safety for them but is not enough to build a relationship.

TIP: Customize the information you give to a seeker based on their stated interests or needs.

These guidelines come from the “Striking a Chord in the Heart of the Seeker” workshop developed by the Aguila Del Cielo Regional Training Institute
